Oh, and here's some more information on Nancy Slawson:

Obituary.

Mrs. Nancy Benedict, wife of Luther E. Benedict, for many years a resident of this vicinity, died at her home in Ossian, October 27, 1903, aged 72 years, 3 months, and 22 days.

Miss Nancy Slawson was born near Ithica, NY, July 5th, 1831. While still a child she moved with her parents to Ohio. Here she grew up and was married to Mr. William Roberts October 25th, 1852. To them was born one child, now Mrs. Florence Glass of Fort Wayne, IN. Being left a widow she supported herself and daughter by teaching school.

On August 19, 1876, she was married at Bluffton, IN to Mr. Luther E. Benedict, a widower with four daughters, to whom she was a mother in the true sense of the word. These daughters are Mrs. Delia Chapman, now an invalid, Mrs. Flora Chalfant, Mrs. Augusta Smith, of near Kingsland, and Mrs. Emma Hanna, of Fort Wayne. Besides her daughter, and step children, her husband, one sister, Mrs. Mary Shilling of Indianapolis, and two brothers, R.V. Slawson, of Bowling Green, OH, and David Slawson, of Norwalk, Ohio, are left to mourn her departure.

Besides being a teacher, Mrs. Benedict was a woman of decided literary taste and for a long period contributed to the county papers and was a writer appreciated and valued by the Ossian News.

Mrs. Benedict united with the Presbyterian church of Bluffton in the fall of 1876 and has since lived a quiet consistent christian life. For many years a teacher in the Sabbath school. She was devoted to the church and attended services when health permitted. Quiet and unostentatious in bearing, she was untiring in her devotion to her family. Full of sympathy and thoughtfulness for all, she had an especially warm heart for children, and was loved by a wide circle of friends.

Funeral services were conducted on Thursday afternoon in the Presbyterian church by the Rev C. E. Combrink and the remains laid to rest inthe Oak Lawn cemetery.

Put by her work and her empty chair;
Fold up the garments she used to wear;
Let down the curtains and close the door
She will need the garish light no more.
For the task assigned her under the sun
Is finished now and the guerdon won.
Tenderly kiss her, put out the light
And leave her alone -- she will sleep tonight.
