I am searching for any information on Edith Carpenter, b. in NY abt 1820's and she died I think in Elk Co. PA after 1860. Carpenter might have been her married name. She married Albert Dempster BENEDICT in 1859. I do not know if this marriage was in NY or PA. Albert and Edith were listed in the 1860, Elks Co.,Spring Creek Township, pg 934, dwelling 634. There is a boy child living with them that also has the last name of Carpenter. I am assuming that it is Edith's child from another marriage, since she was about 10 years older than Albert. I think Edith died in child birth or shortly thereafter. That child was my great-grandmother Uretta Marie Benedict, b. 20 Oct 1860. Uretta always told the rest of the family that she was born in either Jamestown, PA or in Jamestown NY. She wasn't sure which one. Jamestown PA is in Mercer Co. and Jamestown NY is in Chautauqua Co. (which is right next to Cattaraugus Co., which is where Albert was born. Could the family have moved right after the Census taker came to see them? If anyone has Edith in their databases, PLEASE contact me! I have been stuck on her for over 7 years!
