Seeking assistance from anyone on this forum. Is there a connection between the Brooks family of Anson,Montgomery and Richmond Counties of North Carolina and the Benbrook family? In doing Brooks family research I am always running across refences to a Ezekiel Ben Brooks,Ezekiel Benbrook or Benbrooke,Ezekiel B. Brooks and Just Ezekiel Brooks AND John Brooks,John B. Brooks, John Ben Brooks and John Benbrook. I always thought their middle names were "Ben" or "Benjamin" I have always thought Ezekiel Benbrooks(December,1748 Dobbs County NC - March 10,1840,Indiana) was Ezekiel "Ben" or "Benjamin" Brooks. Here is why(Help me):(1)In his Revolutionary Pension Application he(Ezekiel) indicated he served under Col Wade.(Thomas Wade was a col. from Anson County.)(2) In a petition from Anson County to the State Legislature to divide the County one Ezekiel Benbrooke signed.(3)In a deed of 11-1-1772 from Cornelius Robinson, planter, and wife Elizabeth(Anson County)to Thomas Megginson for land on Great Pee Dee and Little River one Ezekiel Ben Brook served as a witness.(4)In The Montgomery County tax list for 1780-1782 there is an Ezekiel B. Brooks listed as owning 600 acres.(Montgomery County was formed from Anson County in 1779)(5)In the 1800 census for Anson County there is listed one Ezekiel B. Brooks 2230l and 02101.(6)In a deed for Feb 4,1802 there is a deed in Anson County from Charles Weatherford to Jonathan Thomas on Jones Creek-the witness is John Ben Brooks.(7) In a deed of Anson County dated May 29,1802 for land SW of Pee Dee River from John Turner to John May there is a witness named Ezekiel Brooks.(8)In a deed in Anson County on April 20,1802 there is a deed from Henry Norman to John Hough on Cedar Creek, the witness is Ezekiel Brooks.(9) In a deed in Anson County from Henry Harrington (Richmond County) to Henry Mecham(Anson County) dated March 3,1803(former property of Michael Auld) there is a witness of John B. Brooks(10)In Richmond County Records(Richmond was formed from Anson about 1789)there is a claim in Sept 1794 of AB by John Benbrook against Thomas Stanback-yet,the next month, there is a claim of the same by Stanback against John Brooks for the same assault-both alleged instances occured on September 25th.(11) Finally,July 1797 there is a claim against John B.Brooks-but he is "late" of this County. Can anyone help?Jim S. Brooks
