Ernest,

I came across your message after asking my mother about the Benbow's in our family that I was named after. She told me that she thought Gershen Benbow was some relation to her grandfather (Frank Sanderson "Daddy Hamp"Benbow -Gershen being his grandfather???) of who I was named after. I am attaching a brief history as she will have to get back to me on the rest. As well as Gershen Benbow's will (which you will see links back to SC & to Edward Benbow). As you can see it has Montgomery County. I am from Pine Level, AL and work in Montgomery, AL-which is Montgomery County. I do not know if any of this will help you as I am new to this and was only looking for other family members as I am the last one to carry the Benbow name that I know of.

My Mother: Marcia Kay Benbow Sheffield wrote:

My Grandfather that adopted me and for whom you are named: Frank Sanderson "Daddy Hamp"Benbow 3/6/1909 to 11/21/1974 He Married: Martha Kathryn "Mommee" Broach 1/9/1910 to 12/27/2000. They had Norma Sandra Benbow (which is Marcia's real mother)(10/23/1934 to/9/9/2004)

His brother was named: Edward Benbow (not sure of his middle/first) Edward was the father of James Edward Benbow and Patricia Benbow He married Teresa ? (now Canty & deceased). He died young of a heart attack.

His father's name was Frank Marion Benbow and his mother's name was Charlotte Augusta ("Mammie" "Gussie") Pugh. His mother raised her two boys and I think a daughter along with her dead sister's child (Ena Augusta ?-Her mother died when she was 2.) with the aid of his paternal grandfather as Daddy Hamp's dad died when he was only three. I think the grandfather was named Edward Benbow also.

Sorry, I need to visit the grave yard called "Salem" to get the particulars for us.

(Once I get these I will forward if you would like if you think there is any relation).
