My father's family came from Monroe, North Carolina. the patriarch of my father's family is Blair Rufus Belton. He was born in Kershaw or Camden, South Carolina. My understanding from my father's uncle, Dr. Ed Belton of Monroe, NC, was that Blair was a mulatto or octaroon. Blair, his mother and sisters were chased out of Kershaw by their white relatives who had become quite pathologically disturbed with the notion that Blair's white father/slave owner, had left his property to Blair's mom. Now there is another story that Blair left SC after getting into a big row with his father. Are either of you related to these beltons? I am trying to get some family historical information. Please advise. Thank you.
