"William Belton arrived in Charleston, SC in 1753 as a child, member of a family of 8 children..."The story is this, in the words set forth at the Council Meeting of Thursday, 6 November 1755: ‘The Petition of John Belton humbly setting forth that your Pet'r came with his Family on Board the Ship Hescor[?], Peter Gibson, Commander, to this place, the 23rd July 1753, and in the month of August thereafter your Petitioner applyed to ..."Immediately preceding the above appears the following: ‘The Petition of John Belton humbly setting forth that your Petitioner came with his Family from Ireland but not being acquainted with the Law of this Province he did not bring any Certificate with him but having wrote for one he had the same returned and here unto annexed. He has a wife & 8 children and two white servants. His Children are Ann, about 21 years of age, Hannah 19, John 16, Samuel 14, Jenney 12, William 9, Abraham 7 and Martha 4, he prays to pay your Petitioners Bounty for himself wife and three Children and half bounty for 4 Children and that he may have his land free of Charge. 1st August 175. [last digit missing] John Belton. The prayer thereof was granted.'" - per Bill Belton.

I noticed that the info on Ancestry.com is very mixed up.
