Good morning Sherrie Shaw.

I would like to hear more about your Bellinger et al. ancestors of Michigan and Indiana. Please contact me at email address if you care to divulge more of your branch of the Bellinger genealogy.

Andrew Bellinger (Philip II, Philip, Johannes, Dieterich, Hans) was born 12 May 1768 in Stone Arabia, Montgomery County, New York and died in 1848 at Canajoharie, Montgomery County, New York. He married Catherine Gross (b. 1771 at Fort Plain, Montgomery County, NY) on 23 October 1792 in Fort Plain, New York.

Andrew Bellinger was a prisoner with his brother Christian Bellinger and was sent to Canada at age 13. Andrew had 5 children per the Stone Arabia, NY church records. Andrew inherited the family bible. See frothingham's Montgomery County reference, page 224.

Per "Landmarks of Steuben County" (1896) pages 99 & 100 ... "Andrew Bellinger was a native of Montgomery County (NY) and when only six or eight years old, during the Revolutionary War, he and his younger brother were captured by the Indians, and the younger brother was killed by them on account of his crying. He (Andrew Bellinger) was held captive for six years, during which time he became a favorite of the chief of the tribe, who gave him a rifle, canoe and provisions with directions what course to pursue, and where to avoid other tribes, bade him goodbye and released him, and he made his way home to his parents, who had mourned him as dead. He (Andrew Bellinger) became a prosperous farmer, was married three times, and reared 5 sons and four daughters, and died at the age of eighty years ..."

Notes for Catherine Gross:
Gross = Gerngross = Kerngross.

Jeremias Bellinger (b. 9 May 1812 per the Geissenberg church records of Minden, Montgomery County, NY) was the 4th son of Andrew Bellinger & Catherine Gross. He married Ann Elizabeth Bort ... etc, etc.

Goodbye for now.

David Alan Bellinger of Monroe County, New York
