Hello David, First I want to thank you for sharing freely with this forum of your vast research and knowledge of the extended Bellinger Family. Your input stored in the archives means a lot to those of us who are simply trying to put together our family trees.
My first known Bellinger connection (thus far) is Barbara Elizabeth Bellinger (Nicholas, Hans) who with Hartman Windecker are my 6xggparents through Jacobus Pickard, some of whose ancestors were of English and Dutch descent and in America before the Palatines. Several of my ?xggrandparents are among the early Palatines in Schenectady, the Mohawk Valley, Schoharie, Tulpehocken, etc. Needless to say, the past few months have been an interesting jaunt through history as I've begun to put together a family tree.
But I'm learning, as I suppose every novice genealogist must, that there is a tremendous amount of misinformation out there. And like the gold miner casts off the biggest portion of the dirt in his pan to get to the few nuggets of gold at the bottom of the pan, so the genealogist must discard a lot of useless and confusing data in order to save only that best portion to add to the family tree.
I'm opening this old thread in the hopes of finding some clarification on the descendents of Johannes, s/o Dieterich.
Specifically, I'm wanting to learn if there is any known documentation for Elizabeth, Nicholas, and Maria Barbara Bellinger being children of Johannes? I found the baptism records for Johan Friederich, Philipps, Johann Peter and Johan Adam, so there is no question there. Is there any sort of documentation for Elizabeth? I know LFB lists Nicholas in his 'Mohawk Valley Bellingers', but does he rely on any documentation? (I don't have the book). Maria Barbara then is another question. I have her place of birth as Palatinate, Bavaria, Germany. Does that mean anything? Does such a place exist? Any idea what are its coordinates (latitude/longitude)? Or does it just mean "probably somewhere in Germany?"
Johannes is off of my main Bellinger line (Nicholas), so it's of secondary interest, but I'd still like to get it as correct as possible. At this point, I'm leaning toward eliminating those three from the tree for lack of or questionable documentation. But I'd like to keep them if they are true and correct.
Any knowledgable input will be appreciated. Thanks.
