Horray David W. Gaddy!
Based on our communications via email during the last few days, we agree that the John Bellinger you are seeking information about was the son of Dr. John Bellinger & Mary Geraldine Northrup.Tying up loose ends, you still would like to receive a picture of John Bellinger (1841-1920), preferably in wartime uniform as a young man.

A summary of the information from you is:
Your John Bellinger, a lieutenant in the signal corps, was severely wounded in September 1864 while serving with Major General Joseph Wheeler's Confederate cavalry.John Bellinger purportedly attended Georgetown College (Kentucky).
In your email to me a few days ago you stated "John Bellinger was a South Carolinian, b. circa 1847 (1841), who went to Texas prior to 1880 and was a bank clerk in Falls, Texas.(In 1880) John Bellinger was listed as married to Mary (27) from Massachusetts (father from Ohio and mother from Massachusetts), with children Mary (4), Roberta (3) and John (1).The entry was from a listing by John Hayes, an autograph dealer in South Carolina, who had an 1880 "quit claim" for the estate of Dr. John Bellinger, signed by his son John."

My records have that John Bellinger [John, John Skottowe, John, Edmund F.(Landgrave III), Edmund F.(Landgrave II), Captain Edmund F. Bellinger] was born 31 March 1841 in Charleston County, South Carolina and died 17 January 1920 in San Antonio, Texas. On 23 July 1874 John Bellinger (1841-1920) married Mary Pamela Westcott (b. 8 December 1851 in Charlestown, Massachusetts; d. 7 February 1885 in Marlin, Texas).
John Bellinger's parents were John Bellinger, M.D. (b. 24 September 1804; d. 13 August 1860) & Mary Geraldine Northrup (b. 1810 at Charleston County, South Carolina; d. about 1845 of consumption).
Grandparents for John Bellinger (1841-1920) were John Skottowe Bellinger, M.D. (b. 20 February 1777 at Colleton County, SC; d. 19 June 1842 at Charleston County, SC) & Eleanor Kenny = Elizabeth Barlow Kenny (b. 30 September 1779 at Beaufort District, SC; d. 1 February 1814 at Barnwell, SC).Dr. John Skottowe Bellinger studied medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. John Bellinger (1745-1809) was a veteran of the American Revolution who served in the 1st South Carolina regiment under Charles Pinckney.John was a medical doctor. He inherited Ashepoo Plantation (about 50,000 acres on the coast about 30 miles west of Charleston, South Carolina).
There are several hundred known relatives of John Bellinger (1841-1920) with direct ancestry leading back to Captain Edmund F. Bellinger (b. 1656 at Westmoreland, England; d. 1706 at Charleston, South Carolina) & Sarah Elizabeth Cartwright. Most of this information is in the 2nd edition of the Bellinger book and affiliated CD available from the Herkimer County Historical Society. If interested, visit their website "Giftshop" at http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyhchs/http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyhchs/ for details.
The 3rd edition of the "Mohawk Valley Bellingers and Related Families" will be published in year 2008.This 3rd edition will have much more detail about your branch of the family (even though your John Bellinger's ancestry has nothing to do with the Mohawk Valley, New York Bellingers).Anyone who would like to have additional genealogy information published in the 3rd edition of the Bellingers, give me your details.
Goodbye for now.
