Families: Bellew/Belew, Willey, McCrackin/McCracken, Morrison, Davis, Lowery, McMillin, Akers, Cooley, Roy I'm trying to untangle a knot of families in northeast Arkansas around the time of the Civil War. As part of that effort, I need help more fully identifying the members of the Bellew/Belew family in these two households in Powell Township, Craighead County, Arkansas, in 1860: 55/55 Newton A. Willey 27 M TN Cabinet Maker Susannah Willey 26 F AL John Willey 6 M AR Marion Willey 4 M AR George Willey 2 M AR Infant Willey 2/12 M AR Quilla McCrackin 20 M IL Farm Laborer John L. Bellew 16 M AL Farm Laborer 95/95 John [Y?] Morrison 36 M NC Mary Morrison 28 F SC Elizabeth Belew 13 F AL Nancy Belew 12 F AL Jackson Belew 8 M AL Cull Davis 10 M AL Theophilus Morrison 8/12 M AR My mother was an Arkansas-born Willey. Her great-grandparents were the Newton M. Willey and Susannah (Lowery) Willey noted above. Her paternal grandfather was Marion C. "Mack" Willey, who married the widow Caroline (McMillin) Akers in 1880. Caroline's parents were William P. McMillin and Adaline (Cooley) McMillin from Spartanburg District, South Carolina. In 1853, W.P. and Adaline McMillin moved to Greene County, Arkansas, where Caroline was born three years later. Newton Willey was the son of North Carolina-born Joseph Willey and Tennessee-born Nancy (Roy) Willey. Joseph and Nancy moved their family to Arkansas from Dickson County, Tennessee, in the mid to late 1830s. Notify Administrator about this message?
