Greetings Dear "3rd Cousin Once Removed":
[per Family Tree Maker software]

Your Great Great Grandpa is James Bellew, b July 19, 1831, d January 29, 1907. His bride, your Great Great Grandma, was Catherine Moroney, b.January 02, 1839d, January 02, 1903. They are buried at Catholic Cemetery, Oconto, Oconto Co., Wi, Block 12. [Next to them are your Great Grand Uncle, Matt, Sr. & his wife, Helen Agnes Lloyd.]

In the "History of Northern Wisconsin, 1881":
"JAMES BELLEW, boarding-house Oconto Company, is a native of
Ireland; came to Green Bay at the age of fourteen years; there he followed various kinds of labor. In 1855, he came to Oconto; worked at the ship carpenter trade about two years; he then took charge of the boardinghouse for Holt & Balcom, where he continued about three years. The past seventeen years he has been in the employ of the Oconto Company, and has had charge this department. Married, August, 1856, to Catharine Moroney ; she was born in Ireland ; they have four children - Ella, Matthew, now assistant book-keeper for this company, Edward, also a clerk in the grocery department, and Clara, now attending school. " [The book is in the collection at the Farnsworth Public Library, Oconto, WI.]

Do you have a date for the obit for your Grandpa, George E. Bellew, b. 1895? It appears he was born in Wisconsin as was his siblings. It was George's father that was born in Ireland.

Might his wife's maiden name of "LaDue" have actually been LaDuke or LaDuc ? Check spelling. That name was found as an early settler in northeast Wisconsin as was Bellieau, Belleau, Beleu, Bellew, etc. Or, was she from Vermont?

Your Great Grand Uncle, Matthew Patrick Bellew, Sr. was once Mayor of Oconto, Wisconsin from 1914 - 1917 ! He was the nephew by marriage to John James Noonan, Sr., Mayor of Oconto from 1890 - 1892. John's wife and Matt's Mom were sisters: Mary Louise Moroney/Maroney and Catherine Maroney. They were all democrats by political persuasion, and Irish Roman Catholics and leaders at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Oconto, WI. As community leaders many were involved with local government, pulic safety [esp.fire dept.] as well as leaders in the church donating their energies to committees & monies to provide stained glass windows and sculptures for stations of the cross to St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Oconto [1870's].

For some of my earlier research on your surname, see: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/lookupsarchives/Belleau.htm
YOu would enjoy searching that site for other history and family from the old days.

At that same site:
Found this tidbit that shows that Grandpa George had a sister that died in infancy: b. 1893, d. 1893:
Oconto County Reporter
Nov. 25, 1893
Died, Wednesday, Nov. 22, 1893, of cholera infantum at the residence of Mr. James Bellew in the West ward, Katherine Bellew, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bellew, of Nahma, Mich. "
[My GGrandpa Noonan went back and forth by boat from Nahma and Oconto as Gen. Superintendent of The Oconto Lumber Company. Perhaps he played a role in his young nephew's work at Nahma. Further, at : http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/OcontoComLedger.htm ...
Matt, Sr. & Jr. as well as Frank, Sr. were listed amongst the employees ...in 1873 Oconto Company Employment Ledger, Oconto Wisconsin :] Currently, the historical society at Nahma is examining the ledgers of the Oconto Company and considering techniques to share the information. There is also information stored at the archvies at the Cofrin Library, University of Wisconsin - Green Bay.

Below is an outline of what we have learned thus far. Perhaps this will help in your developing your family history:
