Bonjour!
I am a descendant of Paul Poiriot (also spelled Poiriault, etc), the first and only bearing this name to have come to this continent. He arrived from Paris (parish of St-Médard) in 1701. Family legend has it that Paul Poiriot was part of the expedition which, headed by Cadillac, founded Detroit in 1710. He was for a while, so the story goes, commander on the Detroit River. He eventually settled in the Montréal region. I believe my father, whom I will be seeing later this summer, has the complete genealogy for the Poiriot de Bellefeuille family. I could get back to you.
Au plaisir,
Marc-André de Bellefeuille
