I am a historian of Belize who has been looking into Thomas Philippe Pickstock for some time now. He was an influential government administrator in the British settlement of Honduras during the early 19th century, even though Emory King summarily dismisses him as "a somewhat dishonest merchant" in his book. His illustrations of the country, some of which appear in a very rare book called THE HONDURAS ALMANACK, are among the earliest known images of Belize. I have been trying to track down more about Thomas P. for several years but with little luck. I believe he emigrated to England by the 1830s, and resided in south London. He was born on the island of Jersey originally, but since his father was a Regimental soldier, he was probably stationed there, not indigenous to the island. Most of the Pickstocks originated in Shropshire, but some were scattered elsewhere around England by the early 1600s. I am very interested to be in touch with any descendents of this Thomas Philippe Pickstock, since he was such an important artist of Belize and they might just have more of his work. If anyone has leads, please contact me.
