So sorry it's taken so long to reply to your message, I've had a problem with my email.
It was so good to hear from you and thanks very much for your reply.
My mum is Archibald and Mary Scott Menzies great grand daughter and she has given me some info which I hope can be of use to you.
I have a newspaper cutting from, I think, an Ayrshire paper dated 1893 and briefly it says that Archibald went to the West Indies with a consignment of machinery for a company called J.T. Young and decided to stay. He set up a sugar planting business and was very successful.
I think that he met Mary Scott Menzies in Belize, as her father George was a Minister of the Presbyterian Church somewhere in Belize.
Archibald and Mary had a daughter in Belize in 1880 - Margaret Howard Borland (my great grand mother). Archibald and Mary died in Belize in 1893 within a few days of each other. They are both buried somewhere there but I cannot find out where.
Margaret and John both came back to Scotland and at first Margaret was sent to Rothesay to be looked after I don't know where John went at first but my Mum says that she cannot remember him but she can remember his wife Agnes and that was in Girvan. She thinks John might have died in the 1930s or 40s. She has recently given me a small book which contains dates of birth (sometimes not the year) but I am still looking through it so I might get more info from there.
I have quite a lot of information from the internet on the Borlands but I have not yet sifted through it to make sure I am on the right track, once I have done that I can pass this onto you.
