I descend from Gysbert and his wife. To the best of my knowledge they married about nine years after they arrieved in the New World.
I ceased to presume facts inre heritage long ago after I discovered my Scottish grandfather was actually Dutch. .Is Wessel Dutch or German? My parents, and grandparents on my maternal and paternal sides of the family spoke German.Mother died 10 years ago at 99 years and four months of age. The fact mother was still singing German songs the last year of her life, leads me to lean toward the theory she was probably German and not Dutch - despite the fact there was a man named Wessels in New York long before 1663..
