Walloon heritage

I am a descendant of a family who immigrated to New Netherlands in 1663. I know that the family originated around late 1500's to early 1600's at Sint-Lambrechts-Herk. I believe that at that period in history the area was within the Prince Bishopric of Liege. The immigrating family actually left from Tuil, Gelderland, Netherlands, in 1963 under the auspices of the Dutch West India Company. My interst is if they could have been Walloons. They appear to have followed the Calvanist faith and to have been moderately successful as there are instances of land sales around Sint-Lambrechts-Hirk around 1645±, all of which were qualities of immigrating Walloons to New Netherlands in the early 1600's.

Can anyone advise me whether or not the people living in this area of Belgium at that time period would have likely been Walloon?
