Sandra, Your question made me smile. ;-) But our political / linguistic situation here is extremely complicated to explain to a foreigner. "The Flemish part of Brussels". Well, actually, Brussels has no Flemish part. You see, Brussels (our capital) is the only place that politically / officially is bilingual in all of its territory : Flemish (= Dutch as to the language name) and French . Belgium has two languages (actually three, also German in the extreme east). North = Flanders, language = "Flemish" (= Dutch) South = Wallonia, language = French. And Brussels is just north of the linguistic frontier. Sorry for acting like a teacher, but ... in a previous life I was one. :-) But I hope this will answer your wuestion : I live in a village near IEPER (English form : Ypres), which is in the Flemish part, and is ... approx. 120 km / 75 miles west of Brussels.
