There is a rumour that the BRIDGLAND family (also spelled BRIDGELAND or BRIGLAND) of Surrey, England may be derived from some Flemish wool-workers from Bruges (Belgium) who settled near Cranbrook, Kent, England, perhaps in the 1300's. Does anyone have information on this? I descend from WHEELERs of Kent, England, who descend from Sarah WINTER and George WHEELER of Westerham Kent. Sarah was one of the 10 or more children born in Surrey, England, to Harriet BRIDGLAND and William WINTER. They had married Dec. 25, 1820, in Godstone Surrey. In the IGI, there is an entry for "Harriet BRIDGELAND , chr. 17 Aug. 1800, Horne, Surrey, England. Parents Thomas & Elizabeth BRIDGELAND" (source film # 1042203 chr. 1668-1854). Harriet's parents are probably "Thomas BRIDGLAND mar. Elizabeth LOCK 25 Apr. 1798, Godstone, Surrey, England" (source film # 0991680 mar. 1768-1876). Elizabeth appears to be the "Elizabeth LOCKE, b. 12 Oct. 1779, chr. 24 Oct. 1779, Limpsfield, Surrey, England. Parents William & Sarah LOCKE" (source film # 0097139 parish records 1539-1812). Elizabeth's parents are probably "William LOCK mar. Sarah COOPERT, 04 Sep. 1775, Limpsfield, Surrey, England" (source film # 0097139 mar. 1540-1876). Any other BRIDGLAND/LOCKE researchers?
