Hello,
I have recently taken over our family tree research that my dad started in the late 70's. He managed to trace it back to my great great great grandfather, though the trail went cold as he lived and died in Belgium. Please read below for all the info that we have on him:

His name was Francis Smeesters who we believe resided in Antwerp. Francis's profession was that of a Custom House officer.
He definitely had a son that emigrated to Chelsea, middlesex, london. Though he may of had more children. His son was called Henri Smeesters, Born in 1830, His son was also born in Belgium and was a sculptor before and after he emigrated.
Henri married and English girl called Arabella Dewenting Tanner in 1875. Francis was dead when they got married. I therefore believe Francis was born around 1800. Henri Smeesters died in 1902.

I am thinking of going to Belgium early next year to do further research on our family tree. But I would be very grateful if anyone could shed any light on Francis or give me some tips on researching in Belgium.
