Margaret,

I'm not doing any real research on the Baele name, but I know of some Baele's living in Illinois. They are related to my family (Haverbeke/Haverback) there. This week they are visiting us in Belgium. Tom Baele (from Annawan, Henry County, Ill.) says his ancestors came from Aalter in East-Flanders in Belgium. I'm sure Baele is a Flemish (Belgian) name, but many of these names are found in the north of France too.
You can check the distribution of the Baele family name in Belgium (geonome project), and another thing you can do is to consult the Geneanet project that can show you all persons that researched the Baele name, I do not have the time and the occasion to go look it up on the internet for you here, but I can if you like me to do it for you. You can reply to my email address for further details on the Illinois Baeles, and any other information.

Best regards
Alex
