My family BLUME name has been written in documents so many different ways. One way is Blome so that is very close to you.He was unable to speak or write English so this may be why the name changed.Just a guess though. As far as Otterham, I too have been search like crazy for this town. What I have come up with is Ottergem, Auderghem, Oordegem, Otegem, Oudegem, and Oudergem.
I am not sure if any of these make sense. What do you think? Otterham is the only reference to a town in Belgium for Frederick.I have not been able to find his ship record to help me out more.
I did find a query on a Flemish Genealogy site that mentions a Frederick Bloome who married a Appolina in 1869 and went to America. This has a stronge possiblity because of his arrival date and his first wife was named Polina on census records here in 1870.She died in 1872 but it states in her obit that she came from Belgium just three years ago.I wrote to this person but have not recieved anything back yet.
Fredericks last name on his Naturization paper is hard to read but I do see where it could say Bloome. This was in 1872.He was a cabinet maker and it seems he was living at a time with another Belgian family that may have been related they were the Forsticks. They also were cabinet makers.
Keep in touch.
