Possible Legend Of Belew....

Hello, my name is Eleanor. Although that I know of I am not a descendant of the Belew History (my loss), a very very dear friend & coleague is. His last name is Belew. He was telling me during our conversation, about his tracing his ancestry and in doing so in Ireland, possibly the Galway vicinity, he was treated rather starkly getting looks that spoke "Oh Your One Of Those!" and was followed by the legend that if a proven Belew descendant stayed in ireland's penal system a certain length of time they would inherit the castle. He was then refused any further information and all "doors" closed to him thus denying him any further search on his BELEW roots in Ireland. If there is anyone out there that knows of this "Legend"? I would like to get more information (it's an interesting piece of history) be it truth of fable.....
Thank You!!!
Eleanor
