Try Vernon L. Belding b. 4 July 1935 d. 20 October 1973 in Klickitat, Klickitat, Washington. You'll find him in the Social Security Death Index and the Washington Death Index (Certificate: 024244). Dilligent research in Klickitat County should turn up both a copy of his Death Certificate and a probate record which should disclose his last will and testament, his heirs, who got what, etc.

His Social Security Number was 537-34-8184. For a thirty-five dollar fee you should be able to obtain a copy of Form SS-5 from the Social Security Administration. This form should show the names of his parents, date of his birth, etc.

At the same time you might wish to research Gladys L. Belding d. 7 Jun 1973 in Klickitat Co. See the Washington Death Index (Certificate: 014456). Get a copy of the death certificate and look for probate records.

And, painful as it may be, you should pick up the phone, dial the number for information and get your father's phone number in Arkansas and your mother's number in Las Vegas (or wherever) and then call them. None of these people are getting any younger and, if you wait long enough, they will die without telling you anything. If they won't talk to you, can it hurt any worse than knowing that you could have tried and didn't?

Good luck, and please let me know what you find out.
