I am not a member of the BELCHER family, but I am aware of the Social Security Death Index, as displayed by Rootsweb. It displays the date of death as a month and year, and since your query mentions May 1982 for Curtis's death, I suspect you may have seen the SSDI. If you click on "SS-5 Letter" on the right side of his entry, Rootsweb will generate a letter you can print out and send in with the fee to request the SS-5 form he filled out when applying for a Social Security card. I just clicked on that link and the letter appeared under the URL http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi?letter=y&lastname=BELCHER&firstname=CURTIS&ssn=422-22-2849&birth=25+Jan+1928&death=May+1982&middlename=&namesiffix= but I don't know if that is a temporary or permanent URL you can go to at any time. The SS-5 form would normally contain the name of his father and the maiden name of his mother, etc.--information more reliable than what would appear on his death certificate. Good luck on your research. Reg Niles Notify Administrator about this message?
