Madisonville Democrat, (Monroe Co. TN) Wednesday, September 25, 1935, Page 2:
“Mrs. Belcher Loses Foot---While mowing pea hay with a mowing machine driven by mules, Mrs. Bob Belcher of Chestua had her left foot cut off. She said she touched one of the mules with a stick she was carrying, the mule jumped, and the blade of the machine flew up and struck her just above the ankle. She was rushed to Sweetwater hospital by ambulance.”
