The Belcher Islands (there are more than one of them)in Hudson Bay were named after Admiral Sir Edward Belcher, born in Nova Scotia in 1799, son of Andrew who was son of Jonathan Belcher, first Chief Justice of Nova Scotia, who in turn was the son of (same name) Jonathan Belcher, Gov of colonies of New Jersey+two others. The Admiral is most noted for a lot of exploration, several bad books on it, and for abandoning two of his ships (in the ice) in the unsuccessful search for Franklin's lost Northwest Passage expedition.
One of these ships, the Resolute, was found floating free the next year, eventually given by US to Britain, which when it was decommissioned had a desk made from it which is still in the White House today. The abandoned as sinking but later found floating ship supposedly inspired the Joseph Conrad novel scene of a crew abandoning its passengers in a storm (Heart of Darkness I think). The admiral was married to Lady Diana, the nephew of one of the two pardoned crew from the Mutiny on the Bounty.

You can find lots of references to the Admiral, Jonathan the Chief Justice and Jonathan the Gov using one of the major search engines such as:
