now i find that there is a Mel'niki in Belarus. this makes more sense for the family i am researching rather than the melniki near Siberia. although i can not find on map. lokking for relatives of Konstantin Deczewicz whose son Nikolai came to USA in 1912 via Hamburg. name in USA is now Daswick.need to obtain russian orthodox church records.
