My grandfather's name was Sigmund Balter on his marriage certificate 3-23-1920 he lists his birthplace as Mogilif. His father is listed as Henry Balter. His mother's name is hard to read looks like Minna _elfard. I can't tell what is the first letter of her last name. I would imagine Henry was what sounded the closest to what he said his father's name was. Does anyone know of any one with the name Balter in this area? My grandfather had said his name was not shortened when he came to the US. It was always Balter.
