Thank you Zlatica. Now I have a new problem. My grandfather came to Canada in 1914. He was Russian. We have his Russian passport and the information on the Canadian papers when he joined the navy. He was 15 years old and did not speak English. The address typed on hismilitary papers is "Mohilewskoy Huberny Cherikowskino U Wolosty Selo Wisoky Borok". The typist then lists his father's (Elei Solotki, shopkeeper) address as "Mohilewskoy Huberny Cherikow Peluhiskoy Wolosty Selo Wisok". He talked of living near Minsk. I know he left from the port of Libau. The archives of Belarus have directed me to the parish mentioned in the above messages. I am unable to access these records as they do not appear to have his province transferred yet. To day I used the website you suggested and typed in the town I have on his Canadian papers. It gave me a match in present-day CCzech Republic. What do you think? Given this information is it possible he is not from Belarus? Help!
