Hello Linda, my mother will be 83 next April. That generation had to undergo a lot of bad experiences. The man I asked told me that he has old city maps of Reval/Tallinn from 1914 and 1930. There was no Polockaja then. He supposed that this street was renamed after the Hitler-Stalin-Treaty when the Soviets occupied the Baltic states. But he gave me an address where I could ask. I will do that. I am a little bit confused by your address in Ostrow/Estland. Was it the German Red Cross who told you that Ostrow was part of Estonia? As far as I know Ostrow and Pleskau have always been part of Russia. While the Baltic states and parts of Belarus were under civil administration in 1941/45 (Reichskommissariat Ostland) the Western parts of Russia were always under military admnisitration. So, Ostrow/Estland or Pleskau/Estland would be wrong - as far as I know. Did you already get an answer from Deutsche Dienststelle? I want to help you because I am touched by this mystery which must be a strain for your old mother. Perhaps, it would be better to continue the correspondence by e-mail. If you agree write to: ise nbe rg (a) gmx.li (without the gaps) Kind regards, Friedrich Notify Administrator about this message?
