My research indicates that there were and are both Jews and non-Jews with the surname "Jaroszewicz." Although the name shows up mostly in Poland, I believe it originated further east, in today's Belarus and also Ukraine. My great grandfather, John (presumably "Jan") Jaroszewicz, was an immigrant to the US near the turn of the 19th century and he wrote his birthplace on his WWI draft registration card as "Vilno, Russia." This would have been a reference to Vilnius, Lithuania, which was part of Russia before WWI, when he emigrated. Today, the name seems to be concentrated mostly in Brest, in the western part of Belarus, which is not far from the Lithuanian border. In addition, the name extends to both Roman Catholics and Orthodox Christians.
