Joseph Sawicki-B. 1869, Belarus or Russia?

I am searching for my great grandfather, my brickwall! Joseph Sawicki was born Oct. 16th, 1869 in Belarus or Russia. He died November 8th, 1924 in Warren, Mi

Married Teofilia Pacewicz in 1896 in Sandy Hill, New York. Had two children there in Sandy Hill, Adrian and Marie (sister Danita) They then moved to Superior, Wi and had 6 more children: Anne Satoris (my grandmother), Aurella Barbara (Rella), Wanda Hedwig, Helen Bogimila, Irene Catherine, Thaddeus Marion.

The whole family left Superior around the early 1920’s when my grandmother married my grandfather from Detroit.

Where is he from, that is my biggest brick wall. I had heard from her daughter (who is still alive) that he was from “White Russia”. She is near 100 and is a little “foggy” about things. From the other third cousin in Canada I heard “Ukraine” and from my Dad’s cousin said he always heard “Estonia”. On the documents I have found for him he lists coming from Poland/Russia. Urg!

Where is he from, that is my biggest brick wall.

Anyone with any info please contact me.

Thank you,
Robin
