Published in "The Day" on Dec 16 2008 Lucille Belanger Groton - Lucille M. Belanger of 96 Burgess Pl., Groton passed away on Dec. 15, 2008, after a long battle with cancer at her home in Groton with her family by her side. She was born June 30, 1927, in Fall River, Mass., the daughter of the late Romeo and Roseanne (Cantara) Levasseur. She attended Blessed Sacrament Academy in Fall River, Mass. Lucille married her high school sweetheart, Herbert Belanger on May 4, 1946, in Fall River, Mass. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage for 49 years. He passed away on April 26, 1993. Lucille worked at the US Navy Submarine Base for 25 years as the Disbursing Officer. She retired in 1988. She was the Chairperson of the City Republican Party and was elected to the Groton RTM. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church council. Lucille was a very active and passionate member of the Board of Directors of Seabird Enterprises. Lucille was involved in Groton Artwaves, and was also a member of the Emblem Club. She is survived by her four children, Dale Bartolucci and her husband, John of Ledyard, Diane Deroche and her husband, Louis Paris of Groton, Kenneth Belanger of Groton, and Marilou Clayton and her husband, Rex of Branford; seven grandchildren, Wayne Bartolucci, Jennifer Shepard, Shannon Belanger, Eric Deroche and his fiancé, Lisa Tulka, Kristen Bartolucci, Sarah Clayton and Shayla Belanger. She also had two great-grandchildren, Cole Shepard and Claire Bartolucci. She is also survived by her long time companion, Hollis Chick; a daughter-in-law; and Godchild, Susan Belanger of Hudson, N.H. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 on Friday at Sacred Heart Church in Groton. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton.
