"Bel" in French basically means "good-looking" (rough translation,I know). All of us in our DNA surname group have been tested to be in what they call the R1b haplogroup.Or in another term Celtic. We are Bells,Bealls,Beals and Beales and even tho' we don't show any close relation to one another, one of our surname groups is bound to have been of French origin.Surely they don't mean ALL Bels have Sephardic roots?
And speaking of DNA testing, are any of you interested in joining our DNA surname project? The project coordinator and I have been discussing it and would really be interested in seeing which of our groups is linked to the Bels. You can answer me here or e-mail me.I'll be glad to answer any questions.Thomas Beall
