I recently received the following information from Michael Bar-Ron:

"We are Israeli Bejaranos for 4 generations. My great-great grandfather, Shabtai Bejarano, risked plague and war to move here from Bulgaria, during the "first 'aliyah" (first mass emigration of Jews to Israel, since the birth of modern Zionism), in the 1880's. However, he, his wife, and my great-gpa, Ya'aqov Bejarano were wiped out in the typhus/malaria plague, during WWI. My grandfather and his sisters were orphaned. Even he died of diabetes when my father was only 16, leaving him with no knowledge of his family roots, besides the memories of Ladino songs."

He can be reached through michaellevana@barak-online.net
