The origin of the name is "inhabitant of Bejar", Bejar being a town in the Spanish province of Salamanca. Bejarano is a surname that runs among Sephardic Jews. This doesn't imply that all "Bejaranos" are part of this lineage, but it is well possible. I'm interested in any Sephardic people with this name. This is because I found out that my own surname Rivas, is an originally Jewish surname and my Spanish grandparents are from a tiny village near Bejar. I just fantasized about the possibility that there was a considerable Jewish community in Bejar. That way I made up (sic) "Bejarano" and found that there has been a family of that surname in Bulgaria. One of its members was a famous rabbi who headed several communities, also in Turkey and Bukarest (this century). He was member of the Real Academia de la Lengua Espanola.

Any information to increase my knowledge? Please let me know!!

Titus Rivas
