I purchased the subject undated studio portrait of a bearded, middle-aged man taken by Draper, Philadelphia, PA. It is identified on the back of the mount: "Cousin Edwin Beidler" The photo also bears the subject's business stamp in red ink reading: "E. R. BEIDLER, General Insurance Agent, Life & Accident, Fire & Marine N. W. Cor. 10th & Chesnut Sts., PHILADELPHIA." I found this individual listed in the 1870, 1880, and 1900 Census data for Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., PA. Edwin R. Beidler, born Jan 1835 in PA, was employed as an insurance agent. In 1870, Edwin lived with three others named Beidler, namely Henry Beidler, a hotel keeper, born about 1839 in PA; Mary Beidler, born about 1851 in PA; and G. A. Beidler, an inventor, born about 1842 in PA. In 1880, Edwin boarded with Ella A. Beidler (his wife?), born about 1840 in PA; they boarded at 1211 Arch Street. In 1900, Edwin lived with his wife of four years, Mary L. Beidler (maiden name unknown), born Oct 1863 in PA; the couple had no children. Contact me if you wish to view and/or acquire this photo.
