My Christian Beidler arrived on the Ship Samuel in 1732. Two male cousins had preceeded him to PA. Christian's oldest son Abraham moved to the Shenandoah Valley about 1770 i.e. or shortly after Christian died in 1768. He settled on a farm on the North Fork Shenandoah River near Strasburg/Toms Brook, VA in what is now Shenandoah County. There the name became Beydler. One sone moved to Page County near Luray, VA. There the name eventually became BIEDLER after the Civil War. You canactually finad about 7 or 8 different spellings of the name in the county records! Some began with P...as in Pidler. I have been back to the village in Switzerland from which Christian Beidler's grandfather came. Jost Beutler left Switzerland about 1585 and fled to what is now Germany adn built a mill. He fled due to religious persecution because he and his wife were Ana-Baptists. The generation that came to America in 1732 were Mennonites. Some stayed Mennonites and some did not. The generations in the Abraham Beider/Beydler line did not remain a Mennonite but many of his cousins in PA did remain Mennonite. I don't think Abraham himself remained a Mennonite. There were so many similar groups at that time that kept forming new religious sects.
