Hi Barbara.Sorry I didn't reply sooner.I didn't get notified of your posting (or the others) and just came across it.
You've got great information! We must be connected somehow...I'm just not sure how.
My grandmother, Mary Behuniak, said she was born in Ansonia. We have multiple years of birth for her (7/10 in 1898, 1900, 1897, etc.).I'm not really sure if she was born in Ansonia or not. We don't know her parents names...though on her application for a SSN she listed them as Metro and Tillie. At one point she told one of my aunts that her mother's name was also Mary. All we do know from her family is there was an Uncle Harry....I assume her brother.Supposedly Harry had a small restaurant in NY City where Mary worked. She married my grandfather (Stephen Marshalick...or Stafan Marszalek, from Nowicha or Novicia, Galicia) on May 17, 1917 at St. Elias Church in Brooklyn. My eldest aunt was born in Jersey City, NJ...then they moved to central PA where my grandfather's family had settled.I understand Uncle Harry and his family came to visit a couple times when my mother and her siblings were young. That's their only contact with any Behuniak. My grandmother died in 1967...long before I knew to ask any important questions.
I can find no record of her in Ansonia.I even contacted the Ukrainian Catholic Church there but they had no record of the birth of Mary Behuniak during that time. They did refer me to the other established church there at the time, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.I contacted the priest there.Although he'd like to be helpful in my search, he said all of the records at that time were written in Russian or Ukrainian, and he cannot read it.
I'm curious is your Wasyl might be another brother.
