My wife's cousin relates the following.
"Our family history, according to to the archives, dates back to 1749 when Pap Pap's great great grandfather, Emmanuel Behe, his brother Henry and sister Mary, landed in this country in Baltimore, Maryland. Prince Gallitzin was ordained[Fr. Demetrius Augustus Gallitzin] by Archbishop John Carroll (who was a first cousin of Pap Pap's great grandmother, Mrs Patrick Caton or O'Caton). When Prince Gallitzin came to Conewago, Pa., Emmanuel Behe and his brother Henry, followed him. Henry then went toward Philadelphia and married. Emmanuel Behe married an Indian girl whose name Mary Behe does not know. Emmanuel and Henry made caskets for the fallen soldiers in the Revolutionary War and fought in the French and Indian War."
The mention of an Indian girl and making caskets hasn't been documented and may be embelishments, but it sounds like Emmanuel was a resident in Baltimore, became 'connected' with Fr. Gallitzin in Baltimore and moved with him to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, known in colonial times as Conewago Chapel, in Edge Grove Village, Conewago Twp, York County, Pennsylvania at 30 Basilica Drive, Hanover PA 17331-8924. From there, the pastor and part of the flock moved to establish the Basilica of Saint Michael in Loretto.
We had traveled to Sacred Heart and found it interesting to see headstones in the cemetery behind the church with surnames also seen in St. Michael's cemetery.
