Hi Vincent
Thanks for replying to my message.I live in England in a county called Essex.I have traced my ancestors back to the late 1700's.My grandmother's maiden name was Beehag, I believe that there are various spellings and in England these are as follows:-Beehag,Behag,Behagg,Behagge,Behague.I believe my ancestors moved to Essex from another county called Cambridgeshire and yet another called Huntingdonshire.I also believe that before that they came from France, the names I have are Piere Behague who was married to Susanne Du Bo.They had children in Thorney, Cambridgeshire from 1655 and are on the parish records as French Huguenots.
I have been told that I am descended from French Huguenots but did not know much about them.Any information that you can let me have would be lovely. I am very interested in the history of the name.
I cannot trace a link between the Cambridgeshire and the Essex families.I have tried the Huguenots web site and searched for all spellings of Behague but was unsucessful, there were no matches.I don't know if you can help at all.
It is thought that the huguenots came over to the fenland areas of Cambridge in the mid 1600's to work on the waterways, I then think my particular part of the family moved to Essex to work on the marsh areas that are here.
It was lovely to hear from you, maybe we can keep in touch, and if I can help you at all with any family research please let me know.
We have a Dutch church in Colchester and I have found many Behagel names but sadly none that match mine. The most common name's I am looking for are Gideon and Christopher.
Kind regards
Jacky
