This was an interesting post...although none of my Beggs were lefties, but that doesn't mean they weren't; it just means I never really paid attention!!! The hair thing was interesting too...my sister Dorothy Elaine Beggs b. 9MAR1958 (living) and myself had parts straight down the middle...a few girl cousins had parts on the boy side...I know this because I used to tease my cousin Lori...her and her two sisters, Phyliss & Lisa had this trait... We are from Oceana County, Michigan...our Beggs started in Colfax Twp., Walkerville, Oceana, Michigan... My GGrandfather Joseph Beggs was one of the first settlers here in this lumber town...now more of a ghost town with a convienent store, tavern, and a few churches...it has a school and library too...I think a small grocery store also...but back to the genealogy... Joseph Beggs first appears in Walkerville around 1895. He was born abt. 13MAR1862 in "Eng Canada"...he wed Clarah Marie Green b. 17JAN1883 in Troy Twp., Newaygo, Michigan on 31AUG1904 and a few short months later she gave birth to my grandfather Francis "Frank" Leon Beggs b. 2NOV1904. Shotgun wedding??? Before Joseph died on 3NOV1911 he and Clarah had Archibald "Archie" Mcclean Beggs b. 25DEC1906, Thelma Marie Beggs b. June 1909, and Madeline "Midge" Lee Beggs b. 1JAN1911...there is another child who carried the Beggs surname, but couldn't have been a Beggs...Lena "Mabel" Beggs b. 14JUN1914...I believe her father's name was Benjamin Phelps, but thats another branch...lol... I determined Joseph's birthdate by his age at the time of his and Clarah's marriage...42yrs old and his age at the time of death 49yrs 7mths & 21 days, but have nothing conclusive. His father's name I found on the 1910 US Federal Census and it says William Beggs was born in Scotland. On this same census it says Joseph's mother was born in "Eng Canada", but no name!!! Joseph too was born in "Eng Canada". Everyone I've consulted believe "Eng Canada" to be Ontario and there are tons of Beggs there, the closest I get to my Joseph is one born in 1871 and this might be him, but don't know how to proceed in finding out for sure...there are millions if not more William Beggs born in Scotland!!! If anyone can help with this branch I'd sure appreciate it...I've been hitting my head on this brickwall for over 25yrs!!! Beggs' sure didn't know about record keeping!!! Or maybe they didn't know how to write, whatever the reason it sure makes doing family research on them very difficult... Thank you in advance. Searching for each leaf of my family tree... Angel Hugs & Blessings Brenda Beggs-Salazar P.S. Joseph owned two forty acre tracts of land in Colfax Twp., Walkerville, Oceana, Michigan, one he sold to a Samuel Steele from Indiana.
