WILLIAM BEGGS was married in Scotland to Jane Craig, daughter of Archibald Craig.Sometime before 1837 they moved to Canada, where William started farming.Not long afterward he drowned in the English River in Ontario, leaving Jane with an unknown number of children.One was an infant son named Archie.
ARCHIE BEGGS was born in the Province of Quebec, Canada, on 16 Oct 1837.After his father died, his mother took him to live with his grandfather, Mr. Craig.He died when Archie was eight years old.Archie had to support himself, and began working in a Massachusetts cotton factory for a lady by the name of Mrs. Simples (in Middlesex County?).When he was 16 or 17 he moved to Wisconsin and settled at Belle Plaine.He worked in the lumber mills and on the river, then acquired 120 acres of wild land in Seymour Township, Outagamie County.
In 1865 Archie Beggs married Anna Easton, also a native of Quebec, born 12 May 1841, a daughter of William and Mary (Thompson) Easton, who came from Scotland.Archie and Anna had at least four children: Anna E. CLARK, b ca 1866 ; Mary F. "Mamie" CLARK, b ca 1869; Jessie RISENER, b ca 1879, and Sadie Beggs.
