Beggs Family Genealogy Forum

Nancy,
With Dongola being as small as it is I wouldn't doubt the Beggs are all somehow related. My father advised that my grandfather, Milly, or Arthur, Beggs, had a brother John. This brother supposedly owned 40 acres outside of Dongola and later moved to Merment, Il. There were also 3 sisters, an Edith, Laurie, and a Julie. From what I've been told my great grandfather, who was also a John, moved to Oklahoma City to live with the daughter Julie, last possible name of Desoto, where he died. I can't find out who the other two brothers are that came to the US with my great grandfather John, and only know they came sometime ater the great potatoe famine. I was also told there is an Oak Grove Cemetary in Merment, Il. where there are several Beggs buried. I had also found that there was a David Beggs age 19 and a John Beggs age 19 that enlisted in the Union Army 9th Infantry Regiment of Illinois Volunteers from down around Union County but don't know more than that. I'd be interested in knowing where the Beggs in the Dongola region originated from. Never knew why they called my Grandfather Arthur "Scotty" but assumed it was because his kin must have been from Scotland.
