I'm not sure if I have anything of interest to you. I'm interested in the Beeson's because several according to an genealogical piece by Warnar Reid are buried in the Caney Fork Church Cemetery. I'm trying to see if there is a link between them and the Hamilton's of Butler Co.
This is what Warnar said:
"writer found this place in 1971,and found the following markers that were legible and several graves that time had eroded the names. I am writing exactly what was on the markers: Elizabeth Reid, consort of Nathaniel Reid; born April 28, 1798; died January 1, 1831: Nathaniel Reid, born July 22, 1787; died December 19, 1863: Mrs. Peggy Reid, age 35 years, born 1789; died September 17, 1824: Charlotte Reid, wife of Nathaniel Reid, born February 5, 1803; died August 24, 1867: Lucretia Hamilton, born August 13, 1785; died September 13, 1863: Polly Reid, born December, 1788; died June 30, 1861:Dulce Bella, wife of E. Beeson, born ______; died April 15, 1833: Minerva, wife of B.B. Beeson, born January 23, 1824; died December 31, 1863: and Edward Beeson, died October 3, 1859"
The Reid family migrated to Texas in the 1870s, according to the article, because their plantations were burned during the Civil War. They migrated in a wagon train of 40 wagons, crossed the Mississippi at Memphis, and the Red River at Clarksville in 1872 or 1873, first stopping in Dangerfield TX, then going onto Wise Co. TX. where they settled. They eventually made their way into the panhandle of TX in the 1890s.
Lucretia - noted above in the cemetery was born Lucretia DeShane. I'm thinking that maybe she and her husband - Jacob Alexander Hamilton or Benjamin Hamilton were born in Berkeley WV or thereabouts. The Beesons it seems came from Berkeley Co about the same time as the Hamiltons -- no proof-- just a hunch.
Sorry I don't have more.
Caroline
