Charlie Beery was a "get the job done guy". One story his daughter, Dorothea Beery, told me concerned the pond at Fish Camp. There was a small body of water there. Gramps decided it would be good for business to make a place where guests could fish and catch trout. He took a few sticks of dynamite and blew up a hole big enough to hold water year round. He proceeded to catch trout out of the Merced River and stock that pond for his guests.

He also had a still in those days. The authorities came looking for it. Mother said they never found the still. My husband's father , Clarence Sheldon Beavers, used to drive a limosine from Merced, CA up to Fish Camp. He brought Wallace Beery and Noah Beery up to visit Charlie and Fish Camp and the Still.

Grandpa died in June of 1960 when I was 12 years old.
