Dear Webmaster,
My family history study relates that our Beery (Bieri) ancestor was born in Oberdiessbach. He was a Mennonite, Niklaus Bieri, born about 1695, son of Hans Bieri. Forced to leave Switzerland about 1710, he went to the Palatinate in Germany until emigrating to Pennsylvania in America in 1727. His Beery descendants number possibly 100,000 across our land.
Can you put me in contact with any Bieri family members who may live in your area? I would be very grateful.
You may feel free to write me in German; I read it well.

In Oberdiessbach leben heute 7 Familien Bieri. Es sind jedoch alle Familien zugezogen, d.h. es sind keine "alteingesessenen" Einwohner. Alle sind in Schangnau BE heimatberechtigt. Wir bitten Sie deshalb, sich an das entsprechende Zivilstandsamt in Langnau zu wenden (Dorfstrasse 1, 3550 Langnau im Emmental).

Seven Bieri families live in Oberdiessbach today. All these families moved here, that is, none are legally "original heritage (?)" residents. All are home-registered in Schangnau, Canton Bern. Therefore, please forward your inquiry to the civil authority there (Dorfstrasse 1, 3550 Langnau im Emmental.
Sollte das Zivilstandsamt Ihnen nicht weiterhelfen können, wenden Sie sich bitten an das Staatsarchiv, Falkenplatz 4, 3012 Bern (info.stab@sta.be.ch).
If the authorities there can't help you further, then turn to the Federal Archives, Falkenplatz 4, 3012 Bern (info.stab@sta.be.ch).

Thank you very much for your prompt and very helpful reply! I will post your information in the "Beery Forum" on the Internet. During the summer tourist season, you may well have visitors from America.
My wife and I live in a retirement condominium, Leisure World. A neighbor here is from Basel; she will help me make the inquiries you suggest in Schangnau, Langnau and Bern.
