This information is in Judith Beery Garber's "Beery Family History," 1957 8-11-2-1-4 CHARLES HELLRICH BEERY, b May 31, 1872, Fairfield Co., Ohio. He was a telegrapher Pa. R.R. 1892-95, on train service Hocking Valley Railway Co. and Columbus, Shawnee & Hocking Railway. He was promoted to conductor in 1900. He was conductor on the St. Louis & San Francisco Railway, Monett, Mo., 1902-10; conductor on construction of the Harlowtown & Puget Sound extension C.M. & St. P. R.R 1910-12 (1400 miles of railroad built). Charles moved on as conductor and assistant superintendent of construction on the Canadian Northern Railway, Edmonton to Vancouver, British Columbia, from 1913-17. As a reward of merit on completion of that road he was placed on the first passenger train from Edmonton to Vancouver. He took a leave of absence because of throat ailment caused by sudden change of climate (leaving Vancouver in rain and fog, 16 1/2 hours later and 405 miles over the mountains the train dropped into 40-degree-below-zero weather. He was a farmer near Fresno, California. He operated Fish Camp near Yosemite National Park 1921-43. Formerly an old stage stop, it was developed into a year-round mountain resort. In WW II Charles worked in shipyard construction for two years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Conductors and Trainmen, Pipe and Steamfitters, A.F.&A.M., and the BPOE. About 1956 his address was PO Box 56, Madera, CA. Charles married twice. On June 15, 1892, Bremen, OH, CHARLOTTE MAY HEFT. She was born Aug. 26, 1875, Bremen (daughter of John and Maria Seifert Heft). She was a Methodist. They divorced. Charlotte died Sept., 1935, Fairfield Co., OH, automobile accident. Charles and Charlotte had one child, Mildred Belle Beery Hawk, b Jan. 12, 1893. Charles' second wife was MAUDE SNODDY, m May 31, 1903, in Monett, MO. Maude was born July 25, 1882, in Bartow, FL (daughter of John and Mary Thompson Snoddy). She belonged to the Christian Church. She was apparently still living in 1956. Charles and Maude had one child, Dorothea Louise Beery Dorn Buszdieker, b April 21, 1912. The Garber history has entries for both Mildred Belle Beery and Dorothea Louise Beery. Ray Beery
