HELP: WHAT DOES MY NAME MEAN?

I come from Devon, Torquay (UK). Trying to research family history, first attempt. Can anyone help me with the origin of the Beer name and how it came about? By coincidence we have a new neighbour in Bucks called Beer, with Italian origins. Was the name originally German/Jewish?

Any help gratefully received.
