A Cornish Beer family

John BEER was born in 1836 in the little village of St. Teath not far from the north cornish coast in southwest England. He was a slate quarrier (Delabole is a short walk away) and wanted to marry a local lass, Ann BROWN of Trevalga (born 9th April 1835). As he was not ‘well established’ in life, he went to California as a young man to seek his fortune as a gold miner in the Californian goldfields. Well he didn’t make a fortune, but he did marry the love of his life when he returned home from his foreign adventures to his native cornwall. They went on to have a family of three children including my maternal grandfather Charles BEER (born 27th May 1866) and John later became the foreman of a slate yard in Plymouth. We think that John had four siblings who were Joseph, Mary, William and Enos BEER (census data) and that their parents were Charles and Mary Beer (both born about 1810ish?). I would love to hear from anyone else who is researching this line that comes from that lovely county of Cornwall.

Best regards to one and all
Peter Marrow (in Edinburgh, Scotland)
